What this site does and does not do

This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no social media, and loads no fonts, icons or scripts from third-party servers. Everything the page needs is served from this domain. For that reason there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to consent to.

If you use the light and dark theme switch, your choice is stored in your browser local storage under the key "theme". It never leaves your device, is not readable by me, and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

Server log files (hosting)

This site is hosted on Firebase Hosting, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. When you open a page, the hosting provider automatically processes data that your browser transmits: IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, referrer URL, browser and operating system.

This processing is necessary to deliver the site and to maintain its security and stability. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, based on the legitimate interest in a technically functioning and secure website. A data processing agreement is in place with the provider. Data may be transferred to the United States on the basis of the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

Contact form and email

The contact form is processed by Formspree, Inc., 1007 N Orange St, Wilmington, DE 19801, USA. The name, email address, optional company name and message you submit are transmitted to Formspree and forwarded to my mailbox. Formspree also processes the submitting IP address for spam protection.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your enquiry concerns a contract or pre-contractual steps, and otherwise Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, based on the legitimate interest in answering enquiries. Transfer to the United States takes place on the basis of the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

You are of course free to email me directly at [email protected] instead, in which case no third party other than the respective email providers is involved.

Retention

Enquiries and the correspondence arising from them are retained for as long as needed to deal with the matter, and thereafter for the periods required by German commercial and tax law, typically six to ten years. Server log data is retained by the hosting provider for a short period and then deleted or anonymised.

Your rights

You have the right to access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). To exercise any of these, write to [email protected].

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. For this site that is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht, Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

This site is served over TLS. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the "https://" prefix in the address bar.
